My research explores the intersecting histories of gender, race, affect, and emotion in late 19th- through 21st-century American literature. My first book project chronicles the reinvention of sentimentalism (an historically feminized literary mode focused on feeling) in interwar fiction by women writers. Additional and ongoing research interests include literature and psychology, literature and science, visual culture, material culture, and digital archives.

An educator and a writer for over a decade, I previously taught English at two high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. My writing has been published or is forthcoming in American Literary History, Arizona Quarterly, Modern Fiction Studies, The Journal of Adult and Adolescent Literacy, and the anthology The Sentimental Mode(2014).
