• Mary Robinson,"The Haunted Beach" is available here and will be handed out in class as well. (Or see Mary Robinson's Lyrical Tales (1800).)

Recommended reference book: M.H. Abrams, A Glossary of Literary Terms (available at Morris Library in the reference department, PN41.A184 1993).

REQUIREMENTS

One in-class report on an author or a topic.

Four 4-page, close-reading papers, due:

• Monday, September 17
• Friday, October 5
• Monday, October 29
• Wednesday, November 21

For one paper, you may substitute an intellectually creative response to the text (a parody, a collage, a soundtrack, etc.).

One final 6-page paper, due Wednesday, December 5.

In addition:

• You are encouraged to hold individual conferences with me during the semester.
• You will need to use your email account. We may occasionally have assignments and questions handled via email.
• More than two absences will lower your final grade; class participation is expected.
• When the schedule below lists books of poetry, the specific poems on which we will concentrate will be assigned in class. These assignments may also be listed on this web page.
• Information about class presentations will also be available from our course homepage.

Finally, a word about academic integrity. Always note your sources and do not hesitate to ask me about the correct ways of handling and citing outside sources.
