The Department of English will hold its 14th Annual ACES Conference on May 8, 2026. The Academic Conference for English Students provides a collaborative forum for students of literature to give oral presentations of their work. The Undergraduate Committee invites and encourages all English and American Literature and Culture majors and English and Literature & Environment minors to submit for consideration the best academic essays on any topic or theme they have produced in a Dept. of English course at UCLA. Students in related fields of literary, linguistic, film, or cultural studies who have completed Dept. of English coursework are also encouraged to submit their work for consideration.

Students whose work is accepted will be assigned to a panel of other speakers and a moderator. They will deliver their presentations at a designated time on the day of the conference, with consecutive panels and roundtable presentations held throughout the day.

Requirements:

Submissions can be any length, however, accepted papers must be edited before the conference to fit the 15-minute time slot allocated for each speaker. That means final papers of no more than 2,000 words.

Students should include the course number and professor name with their submission.

Acceptance notifications will arrive via email in late-April.

Departmental Honors students completing theses in Winter/Spring 2026 should contact Departmental Honors Director Danny Snelson for participation guidelines for the Departmental Honors showcase, to be held during Undergraduate Research Week in late May.
