This Honors course provides an introduction to British literature written between 1789 and 1925. We will examine a range of authors, attending to issues of style and form as well as to changing cultural contexts. Along the way, we will learn in particular how to "close read" literary texts. Requirements: lively class participation, numerous short papers, individual writing conferences, and one longer final paper.
