SUMMARY:Hammer Museum Poetry Reading with Nick Laird
DESCRIPTION:Nick Laird “has the rare ability to mate tragedy and comedy in a single line without making either side feel cheap for it” (Michael Chabon\, Interview). Laird has written screenplays and three novels\, as well as four books of poems. His most recent volume of poetry\, Feel Free\, was short-listed for the T. S. Eliot Prize in 2018. His honors include the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. \nCoffee\, tea\, and book signing with the author to follow. \nAdmission to the event is free.  Dedicated to the memory of Doris Curran\, this series\, which has provided a stimulating forum for nationally and internationally known poets for fifty years\, is co-sponsored by the UCLA Office of Cultural and Recreational Affairs.  It is organized and hosted by the UCLA English Department’s Stephen Yenser\, Distinguished Research Professor.
