Interests

I am a poetry scholar with special expertise in the literature of the eighteenth century and Romantic period. My books include Utopia, Limited: Romanticism and Adjustment (Harvard, 2015); The Calamity Form: On Poetry and Social Life (Chicago, 2020); and Keats’s Odes: A Lover’s Discourse (Chicago, 2021; Verso, 2022). Keats’s Odes was named a Best Book of 2021 by the Boston Globe and was a finalist for the Poetry Foundation’s 2022 Pegasus Award for Poetry Criticism. My fourth book, How to Have Sex in a Poem, is forthcoming from FSG in February 2027.

My writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New Yorker Review of Books, n+1, Bookforum, The London Review of Books, Bidoun, Mousse, e-flux, and elsewhere, while my scholarly work has been published in a number of venues including Critical Inquiry. I serve on the board of the National Book Critics Circle and am represented by the Wylie Agency.
