November 19 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Join the UCLA Americanist Research Colloquium (ARC) for a discussion of Aliya Ram’s paper, “Abortion, Sterility, Hysterectomy: Interrupted Reproduction and the Beginnings of Biography.”

Discussion of the pre-circulated paper will take place from 4:00-5:30pm in Kaplan 278, followed by a reception from 5:30-7:00pm.

Please email aliyaram@ucla.edu for a copy of the paper.

Aliya Ram is an Assistant Professor of English at UCLA. Her research focuses on the relationships between social coercion and aesthetic innovation in comparative contexts and her published work treats subjects ranging from the language politics of South Asia to the poetry of Aimé Césaire. This paper is drawn from a book manuscript tentatively titled Rethinking Literary Address, which considers the political, ethical, and philosophical operations of address beyond the canon of lyric poetry.
