Congratulations to Claire Stanford, who has won a very competitive award for one of her short stories.  The flash fiction contest was organized by The Nature of Cities (thenatureofcities.org), a website that has for a long time explored issues of urban nature under the leadership of David Maddox. The challenge was to write a story of 1,000 words or fewer about urban nature in 2099.

Among 1,200 submissions from 116 countries, Claire Stanford’s story “Neither Above Nor Below” about Jakarta in 2099 won first prize. The announcement is here: http://www.storiesofthenatureofcities.org/.

Claire will receive a cash prize, and her story, along with about 50 others, will feature in a volume The Nature of Cities will edit and publish in 2019.
