2021 President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 

  • Description
    Offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California. The contributions to diversity may include public service towards increasing equitable access in fields where women and minorities are underrepresented. In some fields, the contributions may include research focusing on underserved populations or understanding inequalities related to race, gender, disability or LGBT.
  • Eligibility
    Applicants must receive a Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university before the start of their fellowship. Successful applicants must present documents demonstrating that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. Individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are encouraged to apply.

2021 Graduate Summer Research Mentorship

    $6,000 stipend
  • Description
    The GSRM Program is designed to provide financial support for UCLA doctoral students in the arts, humanities, social sciences, public health, nursing and certain areas of the Institute of the Environment & Sustainability (contact the GSRM Coordinator). It is also designed to release recipients from employment or loan obligations that might delay progress in graduate study. Awardees should consider it as their principal/primary summer activity.
  • Eligibility
    The program is open to UCLA doctoral students in the arts, humanities, social sciences, public health, nursing and certain areas of the Institute of the Environment & Sustainability (contact the GSRM Coordinator) who:
    1. Are in year one, two or three of UCLA doctoral study at the time of application; priority will be given to students currently (at the time of application) in year one or two of doctoral study, and to students who have not already received a GSRM award;
    2. Have not yet advanced to doctoral candidacy at time of application;
    3. Are US citizens, permanent residents, international or registered California AB540 students. For international students, funding is subject to fellowship eligibility in regards to visa type. For those under AB540, funding will be provided only if AB131 is still in effect for the duration of the fellowship;
    4. Have been continuously enrolled/registered the previous Spring and will be continuously enrolled/registered the following Fall. If these conditions are not met, the awardee will be required to repay the summer award.
    5. Must have cumulative 3.0 GPA at time of award (i.e., at the time of payment disbursement).

2021-22 Graduate Research Mentorship

  • Amount
    $20,000 stipend plus in-state tuition
  • Description
    The Graduate Research Mentorship (GRM) Program is designed to assist doctoral students in acquiring and developing advanced research skills under faculty mentorship. Faculty mentors are expected to be in frequent contact with the student participants and to assist them with research leading to the development of a doctoral dissertation.
  • Eligibility
    The program is open to UCLA doctoral students who:

    1. Are in the arts, humanities, social sciences, public health, nursing, and institute of environment and sustainability (IoES) whose field of study areas are within the traditional eligibility areas listed. (Please contact the GRM coordinator for any clarification as to the eligible IoES fields).
    2. Are in year one, two or three of UCLA doctoral study at the time of application; priority will be given to students currently (at the time of application) in year one or two of doctoral study, and to students who have not already received a GRM award;
    3. Have not yet advanced to candidacy.
    4. Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents or are registered California AB540 undocumented students. Funding will be provided only if AB131 is still in effect for the duration of the fellowship.
    5. Must have cumulative 3.0 GPA at time of award (i.e., the time of each payment disbursement) and throughout term of award.
    6. Must be enrolled in 12 units throughout term of award.

    Individuals from cultural, racial, linguistic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in graduate education are especially encouraged to participate in the program.

2021-22 Collegium of University Teaching Fellows Award

  • Description
    The award allows Ph.D. candidates (advanced to candidacy no later than September 20, 2021) to design and teach a lower division seminar during the 2021-22 academic year.
  • Application process
    The CUTF program has moved the application process online due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19. All prospective candidates will submit their application via an online form by a universal due date of Friday, February 12th. Prospective candidates may submit their applications via this online form.  A completed online CUTF candidate application form will include the following:
    • a cover letter or brief statement of interest from the candidate
    • a copy of the candidate’s curriculum vitae
    • a sample syllabus and reading list
  • Nominations
    The Graduate Committee is permitted to select up to 3 applicants as nominees.  The Center for the Advancement of Teaching will make final award determinations.

2021-22 Graduate Division Dissertation Year Fellowship (DYF)

    $20,000 stipend plus in-state tuition
  • Description
    This program is intended to support doctoral students who are advanced to candidacy at the time of nomination by their department to the Graduate Division.  Applicants should be within one year of completing and filing the dissertation and planning to start teaching or research appointments soon after the end of their dissertation fellowship year.
  • Eligibility
    The program is open to UCLA doctoral students in all fields of study who:
    1. Are officially advanced to doctoral candidacy at the time they are nominated by their departments (usually one month after the student deadline). “Officially” means ATC documents have been received by the Graduate Division’s Academic Services;
    2. Will file their dissertations within 12 months of beginning their fellowships. The thoroughness with which nominees have provided details in their application for completion of their dissertation is an important element in assessing their candidacy for a Dissertation Year Fellowship;
    3. Are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, international or registered California AB540 students. For international students, funding is subject to fellowship eligibility in regards to visa type. For those under AB540, funding will be provided only if AB131 is still in effect for the duration of the fellowship.

    DYF awardees are not eligible to receive Graduate Division funding of any kind after the last DYF payment has been issued. Students who have previously received any dissertation fellowship from Graduate Division funds (such as, but not limited to, a Distinguished TA Dissertation Year Fellowship) or have received dissertation funding from other sources specifically for the last year of write-up also are not eligible.
