A Talk and Welcome Reception Featuring David Russell
When: Tuesday, May 9, 2023 4:00 pm
Where: Kaplan Hall 193
Join UCLA English for a talk and reception welcoming Associate Professor David Russell, who joined our department this spring.
Professor Russell’s talk, Art Therapy: Marion Milner’s Essays in Psychoanalysis, will read the fascinating modernist diaries of the essayist, painter and psychoanalyst, Marion Milner, in order to make the case for her distinctly literary approach to psychological therapy in twentieth-century Britain. It will take up Milner’s question of what it means to live creatively, with particular attention to her own ways of using literature, and her essayistic practice at the borders of literature and visual art.
Register here to attend. A reception will follow the event.
David Russell is Associate Professor of English at UCLA. He was previously Associate Professor of English at the University of Oxford (2015-2023), where he was a Fellow of Corpus Christi College, and Lecturer in Nineteenth-Century Literature at King’s College London (2013-2015).
