Professor Jenny Sharpe, a renowned scholar of postcolonial studies, the Black Atlantic, and cultural theories of globalization, is retiring after a 32-year distinguished career marked by groundbreaking scholarship and dedicated service. We invite you to join us for a special reception in honor of Professor Sharpe that will bring together colleagues, former students, and friends to reflect on her lasting impact and the profound influence of her research and teaching.

Professor Sharpe profoundly shaped the field of literary studies with important works such as Allegories of Empire, which examines representations of interracial rape for managing crises in British colonial authority, and Slavery: A Literary Archeology of Black Women’s Lives, which challenges conventional notions of subaltern agency. Most recently, her book Immaterial Archives theorizes an African Diaspora poetics of loss, further cementing her legacy as a transformative thinker. Beyond her scholarship, she has been an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, serving as Associate Dean of Humanities for the past six years. Her career and contributions will be celebrated at her retirement party, honoring the lasting impact she has had on the field and academic community.
