Lynda Nead is the Pevsner Professor of British Art at Birkbeck College, University of London.  Her books include Myths of Sexuality: Representations of Women in Victorian Britain (1988); Victorian Babylon: People, Streets and Images in Nineteenth-Century London (2000); The Haunted Gallery: Painting, Photography, Film c. 1900 (2008); and, most recently, The Tiger in the Smoke: Art and Culture in Post-War Britain (2017), from which this lecture is derived.
