Mona Simpson’s New Novel, Commitment
Professor Mona Simpson’s new novel, Commitment (Knopf, 2023) was published on Tuesday. Commitment has been named one of the most anticipated books of the year—a masterful and engrossing novel about a single mother’s collapse and the fate of her family after she enters a California state hospital in the 1970s. The novel has been reviewed in the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times. Simpson’s short story, “Second Life” was adapted from Commitment and published in The Atlantic, where an interview with Simpson is also featured.
