Anthony Hecht: Worth the Weight

Inaugural Lecture for the Literary Arts Programs at the University of Rochester

Jonathan Post will speak on the force of Hecht’s words in three of his greatest poems in conjunction with Hecht’s time on the faculty at the University of Rochester. Additional support from the Department of English, the George H. Ford Lecture Series, and the Plutzik Reading Series Post received his PhD from the University of Rochester in 1976. He is Distinguished Research Professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he served as chair of the department and twice interim dean of humanities. He has been a fellow of the Folger Shakespeare Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the Bogliasco Foundation in Italy. He was a Beaufort Visiting Scholar at St. John’s College, Cambridge, in spring 2018.
