2024 Barbara Bellow Watson Contest

UCLA undergraduates completing English Shakespeare courses (English 90, 150A, 150B, 150C, or a 182B or 184 seminar on Shakespeare's works) are invited to compete for the annual Department of English Barbara Bellow Watson Prize (with a cash award of $300) for the best critical or research paper on a Shakespeare subject. Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, and be not more than 7,500 words long. To be eligible, a student must have written the entry for an English department course on Shakespeare during the Spring Quarter 2023, Summer Quarter 2023, Fall Quarter 2023, or Winter Quarter 2024. The writer's name should not appear on any page of the essay itself. If the name appears on the essay, the essay will be disqualified. PLEASE REMEMBER TO REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM ALL PAGES BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR ESSAY. Submission deadline: Noon on May 2, 2024
